The opening day to the expo saw thousands of people descend onto the Excel Centre London, gamers, movie fans, comic book lovers and cosplay enthusiasts gather to share their collective passions under one roof.
There was a host of panels for an array of TV shows on offer today, in addition there’s plenty of gaming stands demoing their latest releases and wonderful stands selling everything you could ever want to buy. The fans turned out in fantastic outfits as usual, ranging from Anime, The Avengers, Ghostbusters and Game of Thrones characters to name but a few.
Sadly we missed the first two panels in the main hall, but we arrived just in time to catch Adam Rayner, Lex Shrapnel and series creator Frank Spotniz for The Hunted. If you’ve yet to catch this explosive series starring Melissa George I suggest you play catch up on BBC I-Player, or pre-order the season one box set.
For us the highlight of the day was the Doctor Who panel which had producer Claire Skinner and star Matt Smith answering questions from the audience. Launching the release of the first part of series seven on DVD and Blu Ray, the pair spoke about their favourite moments from the current run of episodes, both Matt and Claire were tight-lipped about the 50th Anniversary episodes next year but assured us the landmark anniversary will be celebrated in a very special way.
As it’s Matt’s 30th birthday on Sunday he was treated to a well deserved bout of Happy Birthday from the audience, and some fans even brought a birthday present along for him which included a packet of his favourite bombay mix. Towards the end of the hour-long talk he was presented with a stunning TARDIS cake and a limited edition sonic screwdriver.
The full talk will be on this weekend’s podcast along with some other Expo highlights, Doctor Who Series 7 Part 1 is available on DVD and Blu Ray on Monday October 29.
