Trailer Trash: Oz The Great and the Powerful (2013)

Comic Con is a magical place for lovers of all things geeky, Q & A’s with the filmmakers and cast, exclusive previews and all of this is in the welcoming embrace of fellow fans. One of the first trailers to be screened this year was Sam Raimi’s highly anticipated Oz: The Great and the Powerful.

Set many years before the Wizard of Oz, this tells the story of how The Wizard (James Franco) arrived in the magical land and became the ruler of the kingdom.

Starring Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis and Zach Braff, the $200 million project is one of Disney’s big hopes for 2013, and after John Carter tanked earlier this year the studio can’t ill afford another expensive flop. That said, Raimi is more than up to handling big blockbusters after steering three Spider-Man adventures to huge success.

This is the director’s first movie since 2009, when he returned to his horror roots for the glorious Drag Me To Hell. Oh and then there’s the small matter of the Raimi/Bruce Campbell produced remake of The Evil Dead…
