Trailer Trash: Alex Cross (2012)

I’m a big fan of the books of James Pattinson, from his Women’s Murder Club, to stand alone stories to his iconic creation of Dr Alex Cross. Pattinson writes at least 8 books a year, and has sold millions of copies around the world. Short chapters and compelling storylines have caused me to accidentally stay up reading all night.

Morgan Freeman played Dr Cross in Kiss the Girls and Along Came A Spider, both solid movies but too much was changed from the book to be considered a good adaptation.

The Women’s Murder Club was also a short-lived TV series, which did start very shaky but got better as it went on. So it’s a pity only the one season of 13 episodes was made.

Last year there was talk of a more Alex Cross stories making it to the big screen, at one stage Britain’s own Idris Elba was said to be in talks. Anybody who has seen Luther would agree he would be perfect as Cross. Then it was announced that Tyler Perry had been cast, and my hopes for the movie plummeted.

Now that the first trailer has arrived, it actually looks pretty good but I’m still not entirely sold it will be anything other than run of the mill.  XXX and The Fast and The Furious director Rob Cohen is calling the shots, and Matthew Fox, Edward Burns and Jean Reno co star.

Alex Cross is out in October, but I really think they could of come up with a better tagline than; “Don’t ever cross Alex Cross”. My suggestion would be, “Don’t make Alex, cross”, okay maybe mine’s worse.
