Avengers Passes The $1 Billion Mark At The Worldwide Box Office

A huge second weekend in the US helped usher The Avengers into the $1 Billion club. As the 12th movie to reach this milestone, The Avengers is already the 11th biggest movie of all time, all of this in under 3 weeks.

Avatar’s mighty $2.782 billion haul will likely remain king of the box office, and James Cameron’s other offering Titanic has been lifted to over $2.1 billion since its 3D release. So a respectable third place is almost a sure thing, currently the final Harry Potter is third but The Avengers are only $330m behind it.

It would be an extra bonus if Joss Whedon’s superhero team up could dethrone either of Cameron’s mega movies, but that could be a feat too mighty even for The Avengers. or could it?
