The Avengers assemble a massive opening weekend

I’m well aware I have yet to write a full review after seeing this movie last week, in my defense I have only just regained the ability to form words and thoughts after the brain meltingly good superhero team up.

You can expect a feature length podcast special from myself and Jim in the very near future, and we’ll both be doing a review this week, pinky promise.

Considering it’s yet to open in America and a few other key areas, the already heroic $185.1m is now the ninth highest grossing international opening weekend of all time.

Joss Whedon’s movie has single handedly ruined cinema by being just best superhero movie ever made, and Mark Ruffalo deserves and Oscar for his performance. I for one will be going to see it at least 2 more times, maybe 5.

Elsewhere in the chart The Hunger Games has passed the $600m mark at the worldwide box office. Given the positive response, strong word of mouth and repeat business, The Avengers stands a good chance of being the 12th movie to join the $1 Billion club.
