The Magic Just Never Ends! Twins Sequel with Eddie Murphy?!?
It has certainly been a week for odd movie news, an underwhelming teaser for the Total recall remake surfaced, then the glorious news of Ron Burgundys return to the big screen brought tears of joy to people everywhere. Anchorman 2 is going before the camera early next year and everybody is back on board.
Then today brought this bizarre news that a sequel to the Ivan Reitman’s 1988 comedy Twins is now actually happening.
Twins paired Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito as brothers in the mismatched comedy, they director and duo tried to recreate the magic for Junior but at the end of the day nobody wants to see Arnie give birth.
According to the Hollywood Reporter Universal are planning to produce the follow up called Triplets. Sadly it gets stranger, the casting of Eddie Murphy as the third brother seems to be the studios first choice. Whilst this remains to be seen whether this concept will actually go before cameras, all three actors and Ivan Reitman are attached to the project and the search for a suitable writer has begun.
There’s no denying this sounds like it could be awful, and personally I would rather Reitman made Ghostbusters 3 as he is rapidly running out of time to revisit that franchise and not an unwanted sequel to Twins. Eddie Murphy could do with a career lift, after Tower Heist and A Thousand Words failed to do much at the box office, he needs a hit (or a credible film) or he will soon be going the way of DTV comedy star. If things do get bad for Eddie, I think they are still making Doctor Dolittle sequels and why not make Norbitt 2 or Norbitt Meets The Nutty Professor and Trades Places with a Vampire in Brooyklyn whilst Coming to America, that way Eddie can play every single part in the movie even the love interest where he can finally have his way with himself on camera.
