Star Wars Underroos and the Retirment of George Lucas

Jan 19, 2012 No Comments by

I’ll say this from the get go, these are two different items rolled together in one Star Wars themed blog, although when you watch the 30 second video below you may wonder how Lucas lives with himself. Until now The Star Wars Holiday Special remained the embaressment of the galaxy, I think the Underoos advert gives it a run for its money.

News broke recently that George Lucas is considering retirment from the movie industry. In a recent interview the filmmaker said;

On the internet, all those same guys that are complaining I made changes are completely
changing the movie. Fine. but my movie, with my name on it, that says I did it, needs to be the way I want it.  Why would I make any more [Star Wars movies] when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?”

The debate over Lucas’s tampering with his classic trilogy has divided fans, I’m very much of the belief that the old versions are still out there for the purist but should also be available on Blu Ray.  Personally I am not a fan of the new trilogy or the altered versions, but at the end of the day they are his movies to ruin, I mean improve, no, I’m sticking with ruin.

Considering Lucas is involved with the now titled live action series Star War: Underworld, news of his retirment might be somewhat premuture. However, lets entertain his retirment for a moment. Aside from THX, American Graffiti, Star Wars: Epsiode IV A New Hope and three Star Wars prequels he hasn’t directed anything else. He was Steven Spielberg’s wingman for the Indiania Jones movies, but even Spielberg himself  has recently stated he wasn’t a fan of the story in the latest installment.

So, would it be so bad if Lucas gave up the day job?

Thanks to Jim for finding this down the back of the internet sofa, an advert for Star Wars pants that I had never seen before and can now never forget. Boba Fett sells out and helps shift a few pairs of Underroos and of course Anthony ‘I was in Star Wars you know’ Daniels is involved.
