Twilight TV Series? Prequels? Sequels? WHY!!!
File this under speculation or oh god oh god they can’t be serious (which is my preferred filing system for this article) but The Twilight Ordeal might be getting a new incarnation. No details have been confirmed, it’s purely in the ideas stage but the recent Lionsgate/Summit Entertainment deal has got the money men thinking.
Lionsgate CEO Lionsgate John Feltheimer, had this to say about the forthcoming series conclusion;
“I’m anticipating Breaking Dawn – Part 2 being $700 million-plus in worldwide box office, It’s hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn’t have ongoing value. It’s an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration. So the simple answer is ‘Boy I hope so.’”
There is the slighting nagging problem of no more books to adapt for the big screen, but I doubt that would be a problem for the film studio. There was the short story, The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner but that’s hardly enough to launch ongoing entries in the franchise.
A TV series/spin off seems like the most logical step, but in my opinion the movies have all be awful at best so why not just remake them only this time cast people who can actually act, on seconds thoughts don’t remake it. The recent reworking of Teen Wolf from MTV, showed that not only was the show much better than expected there is still something different to be offered in the werewolf/vampire universe. Whilst Teen Wolf was a bit dodgy in places it still showed buckets of potential from the likeable leading cast. So could a TV series (minus Bella and Eddy obviously) be the way forward?
Sadly I am neither the target audience for this series or interested in it becoming anything other than an unpleasant distant memory. I will feverishly begin work on making the Men In Black memory wipe device a reality so I can purge the Twilight ordeal from my mind.
Regardless of my personal feeling towards this film series, this is a bold move from Lionsgate as they clearly still see the franchise as popular enough to be given more films/TV series. However, the series success is on the shoulders of the young cast who can’t play ageless beings forever. I’m sure development announcements will be made in the run up to the release of Breaking Dawn part 2.
